Tips on How to Dress Your Best to Impress
APPEARANCES count so dress well because clothes maketh the man, or the woman. Picking the right outfit can be a tricky thing, even for those of us in the ordinary world. And it gets even more difficult as we age, as the pull of gravity causes pockets of fat to accumulate in areas like the upper arms, belly, hip, thighs and bottom.
The key to looking good in whatever we wear is to learn how to select clothing that camouflages our body flaws and flatters us best:
Buy clothing that fit well.
Tight outfits accentuate every inch of flab, while baggy clothes make you appear frumpy, and bigger than you actually are.
Avoid shiny and stretchy fabrics as they will highlight and cling to bulges you don’t wish to draw attention to.
Black is always a safe colour because it hides a multitude of flaws, but don’t end up with a drab wardrobe like Morticia Addams. Choose colours that complement your skin tone and make you look more vibrant. But be careful not to go overboard in mixing and matching colours.
Fussy fabrics tend to make plus-size women look even bigger. If you don’t want to appear even larger, keep away from big, bold prints and fussy design details like frills and horizontal stripes.
Stick to clean, classic designs. Wearing tops and bottoms in monochromatic shades will help create an overall impression of length, and thus make you appear taller and slimmer.
Dresses with high empire waist lines may help hide a flabby tummy or broad hip, but if the cut is not right, you could keep people guessing if you’re an expectant mum or not. It’s safer to stick to smartly tailored suits instead.
If you’re pear-shaped, wear softly pleated or fiat-front trousers that emphasise your well-defined waist. A-line skirts can create a slimmer silhouette-. Avoid short, tight skirts and flared skirts with pleats as these will accentuate the tops of your thighs and draw attention to the tummy area.
Tops should have attractive necklines that draw the eye to your upper body. They should be fitted and fall just above your hips so that your waistline is emphasised.
If you have thick and jiggly upper arms, avoid sleeveless tops.
Having a wardrobe full of clothing won’t make you a fashionista.
If you want to project a stylish image, junk ill-fitting outfits and start hitting the malls to find threads that’ll show off your figure more attractively. — The Straits Times / Asia News Network

Maria Sharapova loses major sponsorships with Nike, Porsche after positive drug test admission
Major sponsors have suspended their relationships with tennis star Maria Sharapova as the fallout from her admission of a positive drug test at this year's Australian Open continues.

Key points:
Nike, Porsche, TAG Heuer distance themselves from Sharapova
Russian officials show support and call for her team to look out for her
Number of athletes tested positive for meldonium this year

German car manufacturer Porsche became the third big-name sponsor to distance themselves from Sharapova after the Russian athlete admitted she took the banned anti-ischemic drug Mildronate, also nown as meldonium.
"We regret the news about Maria Sharapova. Until more details are known and we can analyse the situation, we have decided to suspend planned activities [with her]," Porsche said in a statement.
Porsche joins sportswear giant Nikeand Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer, which said it would not renew its marketing contract.
"Maria Sharapova was under contract with TAG Heuer until December 31, 2015," the unit of French luxury goods group LVMH said in a statement.
"We had been in talks to extend our collaboration. In view of the current situation, the Swiss watch brand has suspended negotiations and has decided not to renew the contract."
Nike said in a statement it was saddened and surprised by the news, and suspended its sponsorship deal.
"We have decided to suspend our relationship with Maria while the investigation continues," the statement said.
"We will continue to monitor the situation."
Sharapova earned $39.83 million last year, Forbes magazine reported, and most of it came from endorsements, appearances and royalties rather than her victories on court.
She was world's highest-paid female athlete last year for the 11th consecutive year, and Forbes put her off-court career earnings at more than $268 million.

Serena Williams on Design
SerenaWilliams reflects on the evolution of her longstanding partnership with Nike and Nike, Inc. President and CEO Mark Parker.
SerenaWilliams has been a Nike athlete for over a decade, but her tennis and design passions first collided 20 years prior. As a three year old, the world’s number one female tennis player was taking her first on-court swings and sewing clothing for her dolls. Years later, she developed her skills as a fashion design student at the Art Institute of Florida. Then, she began a hands-on collaboration with the Nike design team, delivering sketches and inspiration to help guide their designs. With the recent completion of her second Serena Slam and the debut of Nike Court’s the "Greatness Collection," Williams completes her evolution from athlete and designer to champion and muse.
“I love my relationship with the [Nike] designers,” Williams proclaims. “It isn’t just, ‘When I see you.’ It’s more like, ‘Let’s have a collaboration, 365 days a year.’ That’s unique. I’ve been able to develop a really wonderful relationship with Mark Parker. Having an opportunity to see inside his brain, his designer background and learning about him are things that I’ve always been inspired and influenced by.”
The resulting Nike designs for Williams have taken signature tennis style to a new place and similarly evolved the athlete’s involvement with Nike. “My relationship with the brand has always been really great,” Williams explains. “I value having an opportunity to be really hands-on with the Serena part of the company, from start to finish, and I feel like I’ve grown with Nike. I started out in more of a designer phase and now I’m growing into more of an inspirational phase.”
